Kinds of email: let people stop one without leaving everything

Name what you send, like Newsletter or Offers, so a reader can say no to one kind and keep the rest.

On this page

A kind of email is a label for what you send: Newsletter, Offers, Product news. Each campaign says which kind it is. When someone says no to a kind, they stop getting that kind and keep getting the rest.

Everyone subscribed gets every kind until they say no to one. Without any kinds, everyone subscribed gets every campaign until they unsubscribe.

Add a kind

  1. Step 1: Go to Audience and open the Kinds of email tab.
  2. Step 2: Enter a Name, like Offers, up to 60 characters.
  3. Step 3: Optionally add What it is, for readers, like "Discounts and sales, about once a month".
  4. Step 4: Choose Add kind.

Each kind shows how many people said no to it and how many campaigns used it.

How readers choose

When a campaign has a kind, its unsubscribe page offers Only stop that kind as well as Unsubscribe from everything. A campaign leaves out everyone who said no to its kind.

If someone asks you directly, open their contact in Audience and switch the kind off or on for them. Change one only when they ask.

Archive a kind

Use the archive button on its row and confirm with Archive. Drafts lose this kind; past campaigns keep it. Kinds are archived rather than deleted, so the record of who said no is kept.
