A mailbox is a real inbox for one person, with its own password, that works in any mail app and in webmail. The top of Mailboxes shows how many you have against your plan.
Create a mailbox
- Step 1: Go to Mailboxes. The New mailbox panel needs at least one domain that is Ready; until then it links to Finish setting up a domain.
- Step 2: Under Address, type the part before the @, like
janeorjane.doe, and pick the domain beside it. Letters, numbers, dots, hyphens and underscores work. - Step 3: Optionally add a Name, such as Jane Appleseed. It is shown in the list.
- Step 4: Choose Create. The mailbox shows Setting up for a few seconds, then Active.
Create its password
- Step 1: On the mailbox's row, choose Password, then Create password.
- Step 2: Copy the password from Password ready. This is the only time it is shown: we do not keep a copy, so save it now or give it to the mailbox's owner.
- Step 3: The same dialog shows the settings to connect a mail app. Choose Done when you have them.
Passwords are generated for you, in four groups of six characters, and avoid characters that are easy to confuse. A lost password is replaced, not recovered: choose Password again to make a new one. Apps signed in with the old one will ask for the new one.
What each row shows
- The name or address, and how much of the mailbox is used, for example
0.42 of 10 GB used. The bar turns amber above 90 percent. - Its status: Setting up, Active, Suspended, Removing or Failed.
- For owners and admins: Password, Set up (step-by-step guides for each device), Move mail in, and a delete button.
- A mailbox that belongs to an AI agent shows Agent instead, and is managed from Agents.
Delete a mailbox
- Step 1: Choose the delete button on the mailbox's row.
- Step 2: Type the mailbox's full address to confirm, then choose Delete mailbox.
A mailbox that a shared address delivers to cannot be deleted until you change that shared address, and an agent's mailbox is not deleted from here: remove the agent instead.
