Move mail in from another provider
Copy every folder from Gmail, Microsoft 365, Zoho, Yahoo, iCloud, GoDaddy, Namecheap or any IMAP mailbox, and keep it in step until you switch.
Updated 2 min read
Rykon Mail copies mail from your old mailbox over IMAP. Copying repeats every few minutes, so mail still arriving at the old provider comes across too, until you finish the move.
Start a copy
- Step 1: In Mailboxes, choose Move mail in on the new mailbox's row. The mailbox must be Active.
- Step 2: Under Where it is now, pick your old provider. The server is filled in for you. For Another provider, type its IMAP server, usually
imap.ormail.followed by its domain. - Step 3: Enter the Old address or user name and Its password.
- Step 4: Choose Check and start moving. We sign in to the old mailbox first, so a wrong password is caught straight away.
Passwords for each provider
| Provider | What to use |
|---|---|
| Google Workspace or Gmail | An app password, not your usual one: turn on 2-Step Verification, then make an app password. IMAP must be on in Gmail settings. |
| Microsoft 365 or Outlook.com | Microsoft has switched off password sign-in over IMAP on most accounts. If yours still allows it, this works. If it is refused, write to support@rykonmail.com and we will move it with you. |
| Zoho Mail | With two-factor sign-in on, an app-specific password from Zoho. |
| Yahoo Mail | An app password from your account security settings. |
| iCloud Mail | An app-specific password from your Apple account. The user name is the full address. |
| GoDaddy email | Your full email address and its password. |
| Namecheap Private Email | Your full email address and its password. |
Follow its progress
Copies appear under Moving mail in with a progress bar, the number of messages and folders, and when the last pass ran.
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Copying | The first pass is running. |
| All copied, keeping up | Everything is across, and new mail at the old provider keeps being copied. |
| Finished | You finished the move. The old password has been removed from our mail server. |
| Stopped | The copy failed. The row says why. |
| Cancelled | You stopped it. |
Finish the move
Once your domain points at Rykon Mail and the old inbox has gone quiet, choose Finish the move. Stop ends a copy at any time. Either way, the old mailbox's password is held only while the copy runs.
