Confirming sign-ups by email

What a new subscriber sees, how long the confirmation link lasts, and why confirming is the default.

Updated 1 min read

With Confirm by email first on, a person who signs up gets an email asking them to confirm. Until they do, they show as Awaiting confirmation and are never sent marketing. It proves the address belongs to the person who typed it, which protects your list and your sending reputation.

What the subscriber sees

  1. Step 1: They fill in the form and see your Message after they submit.
  2. Step 2: An email arrives from your account, sent via Rykon Mail, with a link.
  3. Step 3: The link opens Confirm your subscription with a button, Yes, subscribe me. A click is needed, so a mail scanner that opens links cannot confirm for them.
  4. Step 4: They see You are subscribed. If you set a page to send them to, a Continue button takes them there.
  • The link works for 7 days. After that it says This link has expired, and they sign up again for a new one.
  • A link that was already used says so; there is nothing more to do.
  • Someone who signs up twice within ten minutes is not sent a second email.

With confirming switched off

People are subscribed the moment they submit, and if you set After signing up, send them to, they go straight to that page.
