Subject line tests

Try up to three subjects on part of your audience, then send the winner to everyone else.

Updated 1 min read

A subject test sends each subject to its own small group, waits, and sends the subject that did better to everyone else.

  1. Step 1: On Sender and subject, choose Test another subject line. The subject above is A.
  2. Step 2: Write B. Add a third adds C.
  3. Step 3: Set Test on a share of the audience, from 10 to 50 percent. The default is 20.
  4. Step 4: Set Decide after: 1, 2, 4, 8, 12, 24 or 48 hours. The default is 4.
  5. Step 5: Choose what it is Judged on: Clicks (recommended) or Opens (an estimate).
  6. Step 6: Set At least this many per subject, 50 or more. The default is 100.

A line underneath says how many people each subject goes to and how long the rest wait. If the groups would be too small to compare fairly, it says so, and the campaign cannot be sent like that: test on a larger share or lower the minimum.

How the winner is chosen

A subject wins only when it did better and the difference is unlikely to be chance. If not, the original goes to everyone else, and the results say so. Remove the test takes it out.
