Start a message

  • New message at the top left, or press c.
  • In an open message: Reply, Reply all or Forward (or r, a, f). A reply goes to the sender (or their reply-to address) with the subject and the conversation kept; reply all copies everyone else on it.
  • A message opens in a panel at the bottom right. Full screen gives it the whole window; Minimise folds it to its title while you look something up.

Recipients

Type an address in To and press Enter, Tab or a comma to make it a chip. Addresses you have mail from are suggested as you type. Cc Bcc opens the other two fields; a chip's cross removes it.

Formatting

The bar under the message has Bold, Italic, Underline, Link, Bulleted list, Numbered list, Quote and Clear formatting. What you paste keeps its bold, links and lists and loses the rest, so messages stay clean. A plain text copy goes with every message for mail apps that show only text.

Attachments

  • Drag files onto the message, or choose Attach files.
  • Each file shows its upload progress, then its size. A file can be up to 20 MB, and a message can carry 25 MB in all; for anything larger, share a link.
  • Forwarding includes the original's attachments.

Drafts

A message is saved to Drafts a moment after you stop typing: the panel says Draft saved. Closing the panel keeps the draft; Discard draft deletes it. To carry on, open Drafts and choose the message.

Send, and undo

Send (or Ctrl and Enter, Cmd and Enter on a Mac) waits five seconds before the message leaves, with Undo in the bar at the bottom. Undo brings the message back exactly as it was. After that it is gone, and a copy is in Sent.

Send as a shared mailbox

If you were given Read and send as or Full access to a shared mailbox, From at the top of a new message lets you choose it. Replies always come from the mailbox the message arrived in.
